Roots & Philosophy - Growing up with a Native American framework, I was taught early on that healing is never just about one part of us—it’s about mind, body, and spirit working together. I carry a deep respect for Mother Earth and the wisdom of natural healing. At 19, I became a Reiki Master, which opened the door to exploring energy work, astrology, intuitive practices, and mediumship. These practices still inform my work today, weaving ancient wisdom into modern healing.
Education & Clinical Journey - To balance intuition with science, I earned my Associate’s in Science and went on to complete my Bachelor’s in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Psychology at the University of Illinois. I started out with my CADC working in criminal justice and addiction treatment, then expanded into case management and counseling with diverse populations while I pursued my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Capella University, graduating in 2011.
In 2014, I became certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which remains one of my most transformative tools for trauma healing. Over the years I have integrated EMDR with Internal Family Systems (IFS), blending both approaches for deeper trauma resolution. These experiences helped me integrate traditional therapy with holistic practices to support lasting growth and resilience.
Building Empowering Minds Counseling - In 2017, I founded Empowering Minds Counseling to bring my vision of integrative, heart-led therapy to the Illinois Valley. I wanted to give people an alternative to the restrictions of community mental health and an option beyond mainstream treatment models. What began as a solo practice has grown into a thriving group of clinicians offering counseling and psychiatric care. As CEO and Clinical Director, I lead a team of passionate professionals and continue to create a space where healing honors the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.
My Approach - I believe healing is possible for everyone. Life does not have to be defined by stress, anxiety, or depression. In therapy, I bring high expectations, humor, and honesty—helping clients move toward freedom while feeling deeply supported.
I often tell people: “Only you decide where we are going to go — my job is to guide you there.” You know yourself better than I ever will; you are the expert of your experience and the key to your own success. My role is to provide a safe, skilled container, practical tools, and clear direction so you can choose the path you want and move toward it with confidence. Together we clarify goals, notice what’s getting in the way, and practice the skills that lead to lasting change.
Through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS), I recognize that each person carries many different inner parts, each with its own needs, stories, and survival strategies. When we bring compassion and curiosity to these parts, we make space for your Core Self to step forward as the leader. In our work together, I help you build relationships with those parts so your Self can lead with clarity, courage, and compassion. I see myself as your guide and co‑pilot—offering structure, feedback, and gentle challenge while you steer your journey. Ultimately, only you decide where we go; I am simply here to help you find your way back to your Self.
Speaking, Teaching & Leadership - Beyond the therapy room, I am passionate about sharing knowledge and empowering others. I regularly speak at community events, conferences, and wellness festivals, and I teach and mentor new therapists stepping into the field. My talks often explore:
- Trauma-informed care and EMDR
- The intersection of mental health and spirituality
- Clinician resilience and burnout prevention
- Cyclical living and “Womb Wisdom”
- Building heart-led private practices
I’ve been honored to present at events such as The Gathering Wellness Festival and on podcasts including Parlez-vous CEO and A Moment of Awe.
